Ar. Abhay V. Purohit serves as the Principal and Director of IDEAS, Nagpur, and is one of the key visionaries behind the institution’s sustained growth and academic excellence. With over three decades of experience in architectural education and practice, he brings both depth and leadership to the institute.

He completed his Bachelor of Architecture from VRCE and went on to earn a Master’s in City Planning from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur in 1987. His academic journey is further enriched by his ongoing pursuit of a Ph.D., underscoring his commitment to continuous learning and academic inquiry.

Ar. Purohit began his teaching career as an Assistant Professor at MIET, Gondia (1989–1997), later serving as Professor and Director at PCEA, Nagpur (1997–2009), and has been leading IDEAS, Nagpur since 2009. Under his guidance, the institute has achieved new milestones in architectural education.

His contributions to the field extend far beyond the classroom. He has been elected twice as the representative of Heads of Institutions to the Council of Architecture (CoA) and served on its Executive Committee (2016–2019). He has played a pivotal role in revising the Minimum Standards of Architectural Education, and has advised on accreditation processes across India. His professional influence includes serving on inspection panels, arbitration panels, and academic advisory boards. He has been instrumental in evaluating design competitions, assessing academic syllabi, and contributing to the formulation of architecture curricula for universities.

A strong advocate of academic community-building, Ar. Purohit has organized and contributed to numerous national and international symposiums, workshops, and conferences. His leadership ensures the smooth operation of the institute while fostering a culture of ethical practice, intellectual integrity, and collaborative learning.

He actively promotes co-curricular involvement to nurture leadership, cooperation, and self-confidence among students. His research interests include architectural education, heritage conservation, environmental sustainability, and cost-effective housing—many of which he has addressed through published papers and talks.
